One thing that we did over the weekend while the kids were gone was to watch this movie. In some ways I was disappointed. There plenty of *LOL* moments in the movie, but they're too far apart. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Everything I'd heard pointed toward this movie becoming a cultural icon. After all, I already know someone who's named their dog "McLovin "
The story centers around three friends who are in the last few weeks of their senior year of High School. In their attempt to fit in, they volunteer to supply some alcohol for a party. It's this attempt that starts the hi-jinx. Things are slow to develop and these boys are so geeky it's painful to watch.
Honestly, there's a good movie here somewhere, but the execution is just too slow. It's reminiscent of Porky's with the adolescent humor and the obsession with sex, but without the pace. The situations themselves are damn funny, especially when the boys get separated. The scenes when McLovin is off drinking with the cops are a riot.
My 7th grader wants to see it, but there is no way in hell. This movie may be about teens, but it's definitely not for kids. Maybe when she's 16.
All in all, I give it a thumbs up, but only for McLovin. Really, don't expect too much.
~Easy says: meh, check it out.
