Sir Mix-a-lot To the Rescue

posted 12/30/2008

Longtime visitors to the Brokedown Palace, and travelers who were with me on the Glory Road already know how much I enjoy music. It should come as no surprise that I leaped at the following.

Recently LisaS (whom I know outside of my blog) posted a request on her Facebook page for some suggestions for mix CD's for her upcoming road trip.  All she asked for were the lists, but I prefer to make the CD's and just hand them over without a playlist.  I think it's more fun to be surprised.

I made the 4 following CD's for her following the rules she outlined:

18 tracks--no more (stupid English car CD player won't play past 20), no less, to consist of:
3 covers
3 fast songs
3 slow songs
3 favorites
3 for the kids (interpret however you want)
3 free choice.
arranged in any order.
Only 3 tracks can be repeated from CDs currently in the travel case. Translated: tracks from Indigo Girls/Indigo Girls, the Urge/Receiving the Gift of Flavor, Camper van Beethoven/Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart, Cake/Fashion Nugget & Comfort Eagle or Green Day/Bullet in the Bible must be used sparingly.

I managed to be true to the rules--though I might have stretched the definition of a kids song--as I avoided all of the artists on her list altogether with the exception of Indigo Girls.  However, I felt safe here as I'm doubtful that the Deadicated cd is in her collection--though I could be wrong. I also managed to avoid repeating any artist over the 4 CD's with the exception of the Grateful Dead.  However, the two songs are diverse enough and far enough apart in the band's history that they're different bands for all intents and purposes IMHO.

You have good music.

I love Deadicated; it was my gateway drug to the real thing.

and a good rescue it's been, too ....

Well, you're right that I don't have the Deadicated CD ... not much of a Dead fan, but I guess that's writ large on my character. I'm more the Floyd end of that genre--and Tangerine Dream.

We caught the series of three in the last disc--that's like a hammer hitting you, really--but the real hit of that was White & Nerdy. um, yeah, we resemble that remark.

So, I'll be listening to that third disc very carefully on the way back to Mountain Home tomorrow.

Thank you so much!!

all i have for the last one is that there are three songs with places in the title....anywhere close? regardless - these are great mixes, might even put my music encyclopedia husband to shame.
