Once again, a bit of explanation is required here.
Last year was the youngest child's first full season of real softball. However, it's still not quite the real thing.
There's no dropped third strike, you can't steal home, and the ball is smaller.
The teenager played in a fall league, just to get some extra games in. But for the last 2 games of the fall season, her 12u team was going to be short a player, and possibly have to forfeit both games. My 9 year old offered to step up and play real softball with the big girls.
As the gametime appraoched, the reality of what she was doing started to hit her and she got scared. She was nothing short of terrified the first time she came to bat, until she saw the first pitch. After that, she relaxed and settled in.
She held her own, and in the second game she put on the Tools of Ignorance and played catcher when she heard that the catcher couldn't play in the second game. Here are both of my daughters in a battery together for the 1st time ever!
This alone would have been enough to make me proud enough to burst, but she'd already done something amazing in the first game.
She got a hit off of a 13 year old.
Oh, and she was the first girl on the team to hit this pitcher.

What a brave little toaster!
I played too.
Definitely a "Proud Mommy" moment! :)
Happy SPF!
Very nice. I played too; same subject matter.
Wicked mad props to her for standing up, stepping in and getting a hold of
one too! And well done with the camera work too!
That's wonderful! Must be great coaching over the last 8 years or so (I'm
guessing you started early!).
Wow...What a great post! I know you are so proud!
Wow, how awesome - she reallly stepped up!
I love seeing everyone's definitions of the SPF challenge. She certainly
rose to the challenge!
